Frequently Asked Questions

Everything in our app is done with physical gestures using your hands — to travel to another location you'll need to use your hands to press on the virtual objects around you.

To travel to a new location:

  1. Bring up the locations menu by using your right hand to press on the large yellow button on the virtual watch on your left hand.
  2. When the location menu appears, use your hands to press on any of the postcards in front of you.
  3. When you press a postcard, you'll see information about that location and a download button. Press the download button with your hand to download that location to your headset.
  4. Once the download is complete, the button will now say "Travel" — press the travel button with your hand to travel to the new location.

Each location in BRINK Traveler is individually downloaded so you can choose which ones to keep on your headset. Each location averages about 500 MB, which on slow connections can take a while. A problem can occur if you take your headset off mid-download — by default the Quest shuts off after 15 seconds of not being worn, which pauses active downloads.

Here's a workaround:

  1. Go to the Settings app on your headset.
  2. Select System from the menu.
  3. From the left-side menu, select Power.
  4. Change your Auto-Sleep setting to a larger value, like 4 hours.

You can now queue up multiple locations to download and they'll continue even when you take the headset off, as long as it stays charged. When all downloads are complete, set Auto-Sleep back to its default to preserve battery life.

Meta Quest: Please make sure your headset's Meta Quest Software is up to date by going into your device's Settings → System → Software Update. If an update is available it should be listed as ready to download/install. In most cases, any problems with launching are due to headsets that haven't been updated in a while.

Steam VR: Please make sure your OpenXR runtime is set to SteamVR in your VR settings found in SteamVR → Settings → Developer. Our app uses the latest OpenXR runtime for cross-platform support, and this issue will hopefully be fixed soon by a future Steam VR update.
